ACS are specialists in the design, supply, installation and maintenance of fire sprinklers, including wet, alternate, dry pipe and pre-action sprinkler systems.
There is arguably no better protection against fire than a well designed sprinkler system, which is evidenced by their impressive success rates – almost all blazes are safely suppressed when sprinklers are in operation.
Fire sprinkler systems are typically heat activated, and once a fire has been detected they will automatically start to extinguish it whilst simultaneously alerting the Fire Brigade and sounding an alarm so that occupants can exit the building.
Despite some popular misconceptions, mainly brought about by Hollywood movies, Automatic Sprinkler Systems do not have every sprinkler head operate at the same time. Each sprinkler head is independent and is operated by heat.
- 99% of all fires in sprinkler protected premises are controlled / extinguished.
- 60% are controlled by 4 sprinklers or less.
- 90% of insured losses are in unsprinklered buildings.
- 70 million sprinklers are installed yearly.
The sprinkler heads can be recessed into ceilings, with a powder coated cover plate meaning they are extremely unobtrusive – you would hardly know they were they at all until they are called into action.
Sprinklers are the only system which will:
- detect a fire;
- sound an alarm;
- call the Fire Brigade;
- fight the fire; and
- minimise the impact of the fire.
Sprinklers also minimise the effect of smoke both in terms of damage and harm to people.
The cost of damage to properties with sprinklers is around one-tenth of that to unprotected properties, as fires are not given the time to establish themselves and spread through the building.
